Excel's support of SMMC Lee Ann Britain IDC tops $65,000
Over the past seven years, Mike Johnson and his company, Excel Constructors, have made gifts totaling over
$65,000 to the Foundation for Shawnee Mission Medical Center for the benefit of the Lee Ann Britain Infant Development
Center. For many years, Excel Constructors has had a business relationship with Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Johnson
comments that the people at the hospitlal "seem like family" and that this sense of community led him to the Britain
Center.
Johnson has always believed in the importance of philanthropy. In 2003, he decided to transition much of their
annual giving away from a national organization to a local one because "you can see the impact of your giving" in a
much more personal way. Thus, Excel's dedication and support for the Britain Center began.
Each year Excel
Constructors has made sponsorship gifts for the Tiny Tim Holiday Fantasy. The company and Johnson personally have
also made gifts to support the Fund-A-Need projects at the event. Excel has hosted several golf tournaments in
years past with all of the proceeds going to the Britain Center. When the Center planned the new Pathways Autism
Program, Excel made another generous donation. For several years, Excel has adopted a few Britain Center families at
Christmas to provide gifts for the children who likely would have gone without. It is the support of individuals and
companies like Excel that make the Britain Center possible. The Britain Center children, families and staff are forever
grateful! Thank you!
